Buhari meets Tinubu ahead of Lagos APC Gov primary

2018-10-02 08:25:23

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met behind closed doors with the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The meeting which was held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja, came barely 24 hours before the APC governorship primary for the state slated for Tuesday. It was gathered that the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, was, however, not part of the meeting Buhari had with Tinubu. A Presidency source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the meeting to one of our correspondents. “There was a meeting. But I don’t know what the meeting was about,” the source said.… continue reading

Ambode fights dirty as Tinubu backs Sanwo-Olu

2018-10-01 08:36:11

When Mr. Akinwumi Ambode set out to address a world press conference, he was not predictable. Like his multi-coloured short-sleeved shirt, he was not identified with a single colour of mood. But it did not take long before it became clear Ambode would not be chummy with his political family. He was a different person. He felt that his political life was being snuffed out of him. He had to fight for his survival. At 2:00 p.m. yesterday, the Lagos State governor lashed out at his opponent, Jide Sanwo-Olu . Sanw-Olu is contending against Ambode for the governorship ticket of… continue reading

Osun rerun: I’ll retrieve my stolen mandate at tribunal —Adeleke

2018-09-28 08:55:24

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has vowed to retrieve his ‘stolen mandate’ from Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress at the election petition tribunal. Adeleke said this while speaking in an interview with journalists shortly before the final figure was announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, on Thursday. The PDP candidate, who spoke through his brother, Dele Adeleke, said he would meet with the party leadership and tribunal would be the next step for the party and the candidate to take. He said, “It will be foolish… continue reading

APC accuses PDP of vote buying, flays critics of rerun poll

2018-09-25 09:13:53

Ahead of Thursday’s rerun poll, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of inducing voters with money to vote for its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke. The party, in a statement by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yekini Nabena, claimed that the act was in line with PDP’s avowed determination to deploy all “means, schemes, shenanigans in all ramification and magnitude” to rig not only the Osun poll, but the 2019 general elections. APC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to put in place measures to stem the ugly… continue reading

Convention: PDP leaders fight over venue

Convention: PDP leaders fight over venue

2018-09-25 08:43:16

There were indications in Abuja on Monday that the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party had yet to settle for the venue of its national convention scheduled for October 5 and 6. The party had earlier announced that the event would hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. But our correspondent gathered that some presidential aspirants of the party had expressed reservation about the venue. They were said to have felt that the Rivers State Governor, Mr Nyesom Wike, would have an overbearing influence on the convention. Wike, it was gathered, was being scared off by the aspirants because he… continue reading

Osun rerun: Omisore gives conditions to support PDP

2018-09-25 08:31:54

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party in last Saturday’s election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said that he will only pledge his support for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, in the Thursday’s rerun of the poll if the party satisfies his conditions. The election was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday because, according to the commission, the difference between the votes scored by the two leading parties, the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, was lower than the number of votes cancelled. After the collation of all the results… continue reading

Declare Adeleke Osun poll winner, PDP tells INEC

2018-09-24 08:17:32

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its Osun standard-bearer Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner of last Saturday’s governorship election in the state. At a press conference, the party insisted the process was conclusive, saying its candidate met the requirements of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, who addressed the press, said Section 179 (2) (a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, (as amended), is clear in spelling out the conditions for returning a candidate to the office of governor of a state. “This section states inter-alia, ‘a… continue reading

Osun: PDP to strike deal with Omisore, others

2018-09-24 07:57:45

There were indications in Abuja on Sunday that the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party might strike a deal with a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, in a bid to win the state rerun governorship election slated for Thursday, investigations by our correspondent have revealed. Omisore is the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the election in which the candidate of the PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke, came first with 254, 698 votes while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, came second with 254,345 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission… continue reading

Buhari, governors may clash with Tinubu over Ambode

Buhari, governors may clash with Tinubu over Ambode

2018-09-21 08:51:59

The crisis over who becomes the next governor of Lagos State could drive a wedge between the presidency and some state governors on the one hand and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his loyalists on the other. Tinubu is believed to have withdrawn support for Ambode’s re-election in favour of a former Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The party leader however has been under intense pressure to have a change of heart. The governors were said to have urged the presidency to prevail on Tinubu not to ridicule Ambode, whom… continue reading
