Egypt has detected 12 new cases of the novel coronavirus among workers aboard a Nile cruise boat heading from Aswan to Luxor.
A joint statement by the country’s health ministry and the World Health Organization said the twelve new cases tested positive for the coronavirus among Egyptian staff on the cruise boat without showing any symptoms.
Authorities have now been alerted after it was found that a Taiwanese tourist who travelled on the ship had caused the virus to spread.
Meanwhile, Togo, a West African country, has confirmed its first case of coronavirus.
In a statement today, the Togolese government said the patient is a 42-year-old female resident of Lome, the country’s capital.
The statement said the woman had visited Benin, Germany, France and Turkey in late February and early March.
