As part of its coordinated efforts to rid the state of crimes and criminality, the Oyo State Police Command has received two Pick-Up patrol vehicles, 60 bullet proof vests, 20 helmets and 40 stunt guns. Speaking at a media briefing today, the State Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu said the gesture was at the instance of the Oyo State government.
Overtime, as part of its drive to make the State secure, the Police Force has continued to make efforts on a regular basis. Some of the strategies adopted include re-arranging the security architecture through community and intelligence-led policing, revamping vehicular patrol, launch of "Operation Puff Adder", and public partnership to rid the state of kidnapping, armed robbery and other heinous crimes in order to stem the rising wave of criminal activities.
Theses strategies have in turn resulted in an impressive reduction in crime rate, sustainable peace and security in Oyo state. Speaking on the lofty achievements, the State Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu appreciated the support of the Governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola ajimobi for being responsive to the smooth operation of the Police Force in the state.
Parts of the successes recorded is that arrest has been made of illegal dealer in sales of arms and ammunition to armed robbers and kidnappers who have been terrorising residents of Saki and other parts of Oyo State.
According to him, some individuals who confessed to being members of a cult group were also arrested. Olukolu therefore appealed to the general public to be alert and report any form of security threat to the nearest police station. It is therefore imperative to join hands in assisting the police to bring down the incidence of crime to the barest minimum minimum, for peace and sustainable development to thrive.
