Population control, a practice of artificially maintaining the size of any population has been a topic of discourse in the country.
This is as Senator Ben Murray-Bruce recently made an analogy of how overpopulation is contributing to Nigeria’s woes.
Lending his opinion to the development, a medical practitioner, Dr Akin Sodipo explained that embracing population control has several advantages to include fueling economic expansion and boosting productivity.
In his own opinion, a population growth expert, Prof Olarenwaju Olaniyan explained that although it has its benefits and drawbacks, however it is unlikely to control the population of the country if the required policies are not put in place.
Sodipo said slower population growth contributes to faster economic progress in the country although the cons of population control can be viewed in terms of what is to be achieved; stressing that it is a collective effort.
It is a noteworthy to state that population trends and dynamics can have enormous effects on prospects for poverty reduction and sustainable development.
